Janbo closes its doors

A long-time west side Chinese restaurant has closed its doors.

The doors are locked and there is a sign in the window at Janbo, located  just off the Lloyd Expressway in the Schnuck’s Shopping Center.

Management  announced via its Facebook  that it would shut down the last weekend in March. 

There was no immediate word on the reason for the closure, however the original owner of the business, Ken Ma, passed away last year.

The new Jimmy John's Sandwiches on Evansville's west side opened Monday morning.

Under construction since last fall, the new store served its first sandwich around 10 a.m.

It's the third store in the Evansville area for Jimmy John's.  One is located on Burkhardt Road and there is another shop on High Pointe Road in Newburgh.

Nisbet Inn celebrating 100th birthday Sunday

On Sunday, November 11, the Nisbet Inn, located in Northern Vanderburgh County will be celebrating its 100 year anniversary.

The Inn was completed in 1912 to serve as an oasisof food, beverage and accomodations for the rail traveler. They will be having an open house from 12:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Work continues on the former Integra Bank building on St. Joseph Avenue as crews transform it into a new sandwich shop.

Jimmie John's Sandwiches will open a west side location later this fall and there will also be space in the building for another tenant.

Jimmie John's already has an east side restaurant, located on Burkhardt Road.

CVB promotes the Fall Festival in other cities

The Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau has billboards up in cities like Terre Haute, Jasper and Madisonville, to try and lure more people from outlying communities to come to the Fall Festival, spend the night and hopefully put a few more bucks in the pockets of local business owners.

The CVB says it spent about $10,000 promoting the festival this year and will do the same in 2013. However, they’re also considering an even bigger promotional push through TV or radio advertising.

Area Pizza King Restaurants are teaming up with 911 Gives Hope and the Boys and Girls Club to raise money for local children. 

The 2012 “Stromfest” is underway and will continue until Saturday September 29. A portion of every strom sold will go to 911 Gives Hope and the Boys and Girls Club of Evansville.

Donate $1 at any Pizza King and you will be entered into a drawing to win a free strom a week for a full year.

Donate $5 and you will be entered into the drawing 6 times.
