School board member can't run for re-election

School board member can't run for re-election

Our media partners at WIKY Radio report that EVSC board member Bix Branson won't be able to run for a second term because his residence is outside the district he's serving.

Branson was elected four years ago to represent District 3, which covers most the west side but as he began a re-election effort, it was discovered that his home on Koring Road is not within the district’s boundaries.

The county clerk's office and the voter registration office didn't catch the error in 2008.

State Senate gives props to Mater Dei girls team

State Sen. Jim Tomes, a Mater Dei alumnus, asked the full Senate to join him in honoring the girls basketball team for their Class 2A State Championship victory.

Mater Dei finished their season with a 27-1 record, winning 20 consecutive games on their way to the state championship. They were ranked number one in Class 2A and finished off their season with an exciting overtime win against Ft. Wayne Bishop Luers High School, 56-52, in the championship game.

“It’s amazing to see such a passionate group of young people come together, combining all sorts of skills and talents, to work toward a common goal,” Tomes said.
