Program awards first grant to Corpus Christi teacher

The first recipient of an OA Live Well grant from Orthopaedic Associates is Jackie McCormick, first grade teacher at Corpus Christi School in Evansville Indiana.  The grant money will be used to purchase WittFitt Stability balls for students to replace traditional chairs in the classroom.

OA Live Well is a program that provides grants to qualifying schools within Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey and Henderson counties.  Grants will be awarded based on ability to achieve wellness for students. Up to $5,000.00 per year will be awarded.  This can be given in one large grant or the amount may be split into several smaller grants.

McCormick wrote in her application for the grant that “The specific goals of this program are to improve and enhance the learning environment in my first grade classroom, provide ergonomically correct seating that promotes better posture and comfort, and promote wellness in all areas of the students’ academic day.  These goals will be accomplished by allowing students the opportunity to move throughout the day in a controlled and structured manner while continuing to be attentive to teacher instruction.”

OA Live Well still has grant money available for the 2011-2012 school year.  The grant application process is simple and involves filling out an application and writing a summary of what the money will be used for.  All interested teachers and/or schools are welcome to apply and may contact kellyt@oaevansville.com for more information.
