Resurrection School student named 'Youth of the Year'

 

The Youth Resources’ 19th annual Youth of the Year winner is Jossie Hudson from Resurrection School.

Jossie is sixth grader who was honored this week at the annual Hall of Fame banquet at Ivy Tech.

She was  nominated by Tracey Hudson from Red Spot. 

Jossie has earned Academic High Honors every grading period this school year.  She is very active athletically and takes part in All-Star Mater Dei travel basketball team, Southern Indiana Xtreme travel softball team, and is a member of the Helfrich Hurricanes.

Reitz senior a state Academic All-Star

Reitz senior Samuel Tadros was notified recently that he is one of only 40 students from across the state to be selected by the Indianapolis Star and the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) as an Academic All-Star.

Tadros was one of 90 regional honorees that were selected from nominations from students’ individual schools. Once selected as a regional honoree, Tradros was eligible to be selected as one of 40 Academic All-Stars based on the his academic accomplishments, including grade point average, academic courses, academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community service and involvement.

Reitz student named Coca-Cola Scholar

Samuel Tadros from Francis J. Reitz High School in Evansville, has been selected as a member of the 2013 Class of Coca-Cola Scholars.  As one of 252 high school seniors selected nationwide to receive a scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, Tadros will begin college next fall at the school of his choice due to the generous support of Evansville Coca-Cola and The Coca-Cola Company.

Last day on the job for German Township Fire Chief

As announced earlier this year, Chief John M. Buckman III is retiring after 36 years as Fire Chief of German Township Volunteer Fire Department.  Chief Buckman joined the department in 1970 and became Fire Chief on January 1, 1976.  He has continued in that position until he recently decided to retire effective today. 

According to his colleagues, "Chief Buckman has been a tremendous Chief, giving his heart and soul to this fire department.  He has helped make German Township Fire Department one of the top volunteer fire departments in the United States.  His training methods have been sought after by departments all over the country and the world.  Chief Buckman frequently speaks at meetings and training sessions, too numerous to count.  He has been given many awards, locally and nationally."

Henderson woman is zoo's new development director

Jennifer Preston has joined Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden after serving as the Marketing/Development Director for St. Anthony's Hospice in Henderson.

Before joining St. Anthony’s Hospice, Preston was employed as the Public Relations/Fund Development Manager for the Vanderburgh Humane Society.  She has worked as the Assistant Director for the Henderson Economic Development Council and Event Coordinator for the Downtown Henderson Project.

Resurrection student wins Nut Club award

Michaela Kunkler, an eighth grade student at Resurrection School, has been named a winner in the West Side Nut Club's Youth of the Day program.

She accepted the surprise award Tuesday morning.

The program honors young leaders who excel in the classroom, at extra-cirricular activities, youth activities outside of school and overall citizenship.
