Sixth Annual Indiana Money Smart Week April 21-18

Several free classes and events that help consumers learn to manage their personal finances will be offered April 21-18 throughout the Tri-State during Money Smart Week.

The week is coordinated by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, which serves most of Indiana, and hundreds of partner organizations dedicated to financial literacy. It is designed to educate consumers about money management and generate awareness of financial education available on a wide range of topics such as saving, investing and using credit wisely.

Reitz grad to be awarded USI President's Medal; plans to pursue medical, political career

A Reitz High graduate will receive the President's Medal during graduation ceremonies for the Pott College of Science, Engineering and Education later this month.  It's the highest honor presented to a member of the class of 2012.

Phillip H. Behrens will graduate magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Behrens attends USI on the Baccalaureate/Doctor of Medicine (B/MD) Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to graduating high school students with an exceptional grade point average and top college entrance exam scores.  B/MD students are provisionally accepted into the Indiana University School of Medicine, which fit with his plans to attend medical school.

New ISP trooper reports to Evansville Post

Trooper William Campbell has joined the Indiana State Police Evansville Post. 

ISP recently graduated 38 new troopers from the academy and during the 24 week process, Campbell received approximately 930 hours of structured training in law enforcement.  His curriculum included 80 hours of criminal law instruction, 80 hours of vehicle operations training, and 47 hours of traffic law.  He also developed skills in criminal investigation, vehicle crash investigation and impaired driver prevention and detection.

Campbell, 26,  graduated in 2003 from Red Hill High School in Bridgeport, IL.  He later graduated from Indiana State University where he received a degree in Criminal Justice.

Beth Sweeney in...Africa?

Most of our vacations aren't quite this involved!  14 News' Sunrise anchor Beth Sweeney just returned from an amazing trip to Africa where she climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and went on a safari.  Check out her video as she talks about the trip in our studio with Dan Katz and Byron Douglas.

USI to honor Dr. and Mrs. Hoops

President Emeritus H. Ray Hoops and Mrs. Linda Hoops will receive honorary degrees during the 2012 Commencement conferring ceremony for master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Southern Indiana (USI) on Friday, April 27. Each will be awarded the honorary Doctor of Laws degree. The USI Board of Trustees approved the honors at the regular board meeting held at Innovation Pointe in downtown Evansville on March 1.

Nick Hart named head coach at Gibson Southern

Gibson Southern has named Reitz graduate Nick Hart as its new football coach.

Hart, 26, played quarterback or his father John at Reitz and after graduating from USI, joined him as an assistant coach at Warren Central High School, where he’s spent the last few years.

He’ll replace Rick Stefanich, who stepped down after last season.  Gibson Southern was 4-7 in 2011.

February is the perfect time to highlight the relationships in our lives and how we relate to money within those relationships.  There are the relationships that we have with our partner, our kids and our aging parents.  Money is a topic that is oftentimes difficult to address, but is necessary in order to create strong interactions with our loved ones so that financial goals are being met.
