Wise choices to be offered among fried foods at Fall Fest

There will be some healthier options at the Fall Festival food booths this year.

Deaconess is working with the West Side Nut Club to encourage vendors to create a Wise Choice menu item. Deaconess dietitians will determine if foods make the cut. Wise choices to be offered among fried foods at Fall Fest

To qualify as a Wise Choice, foods can't be fried and must have 500 or fewer calories.

Groups that jump on board will be recognized with a wise choice sign and receive promotional materials for their booth.

"We will still offer all the traditional Fall Festival foods, but we do realize that there are people that have health issues and concerns that maybe they you know could give them a few more options, things that might be better for them," said Eric Shaw, the 2012 Fall Festival Chairman. "Hopefully, maybe entice a few people that don't like these fried foods that might not come down to come down and try some of the new stuff."

Recipes for Wise Choice items must be submitted to Deaconess by August 1st.

This year's Fall Festival runs from Monday, October 1st to Saturday the 6th.
