The Evansville Police Department is working a case where subjects are cashing fraudulent checks.  It appears someone is taking mail out of business’ mail boxes (outgoing mail) and recreating checks with different amounts and cashing them.

The EPD Financial Crimes Unit believes that there is an unlicensed contractor working a series of home improvement fraud scams in the Vanderburgh County area. He was recently arrested in Henderson County but he is now out on bond.

EPD: Armed robbery suspect still on the loose

There is new information about an armed robbery at Kwik-Stop Liquors at Columbia and Third Street that occurred on Friday night.

Evansville Police say they are still looking for the suspect.

They say a man walked into the store, showed a gun, and demanded money. Police say the robber told the clerk if she didn't give him all the money, he would kill her.

Police say she gave him the money, and once he left the store, she alerted police.

EPD investigating reported armed robbery

Evansville Police are investigating a hold up that was reported on Evansville's Westside.

Police say that just after 10:00 p.m. Friday, a man wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, black pants and camouflage mask came into Kwik-Stop Liquors at Columbia and Third Street.

According to reports, the suspect was armed with a hand gun, which he pointed at the clerk working behind the counter, demanding money.

Police say that the suspect made off with an undetermined amount of money from the store.

Beware of counterfeit bills at Fall Festival

The Financial Crimes Unit of the Evansville Police Department has received credible information that a group will be attempting to pass counterfeit bills at the Fall Festival this week.  EPD Detectives are stopping at every single booth and making them aware of this information. 

In years past there have been several times that counterfeit bills have been passed at some of the charity food booths and EPD tells us they are attempting to give the vendors a crash course in detecting and deterring it from happening this year.

A man has been sentenced to 12 years in jail and his wife will also face jail time following their arrests on meth-making charges earlier this year.

Gun incident at Mesker Park Zoo causes controversy

A recent incident at Mesker Park Zoo has officials looking over their policies.

Police say a man refused to conceal his gun, and was then escorted out by police. Some are questioning who was right, because the man wasn't technically breaking any laws.

September 10th was like any other Saturday at Mesker Park Zoo until the police were called. That's when officers approached the man and asked him to hide the weapon, so he wouldn't make other patrons uncomfortable. Officers say the man's response was a dramatic one, arguing his right to bear arms.
