Teen arrested for armed robbery

An Evansville man says he was robbed at gunpoint Thursday night and police have arrested a teenager in the case.

A 25-year-old Evansville man told EPD officers he was sitting in his car in an alley at 1110 North First Ave. waiting for his girlfriend when two men approached and asked if he had change for a $20.

When he said he didn't, one of the suspects, 18-year-old Deariel Vonsray Martinez Simmons, opened the car door, pulled a black semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at him, starting at his legs and moving it up to his head.  The victim said Simmons told him to give him all of his money or he would kill him.

EPD seeks grocery store register bandits

Evansville Police are asking for help identifying three people involved in at least four thefts from cash registers. The thefts have happened at four different grocery stores in Evansville.

Police say the method usually involves two of the suspects blocking the cashier’s view of the third suspect as he steals cash from an adjacent, unattended register. The thefts happen quickly and have gone undetected until the register is opened later by an employee.

Police are asking anyone who can identify the suspects to call 812-436-7979.

Attempted burglary at Rajo's Guns

Attempted burglary at Rajo's Guns

Evansville Police say there was an attempted burglary at Rajo's Guns on Franklin Avenue early Thursday morning.

Officers were dispatched just before 12:30 a.m. after an alarm went off at the business.  On scene, they discovered someone had tried to gain entry through a rear door, but it hadn't been pried open far enough for someone to fit through.

There was an audible alarm going off when police arrived, which may have scared the burglars away.

The owner told police it appeared as if someone had been on the roof as well.

No arrests have been made.
