Actress from That 70s Show to Perform at New Harmony

Film and television actress Christina Moore, who played Laurie Forman in later seasons of “That ‘70s Show” and Suzanne McKittrick in HBO’s series “True Blood,” will perform in New Harmony Theatre’s 2012 season opening production as Annette in the comedy God of Carnage. Moore is no stranger to Indiana. In the early ‘90s, Moore was a part of University of Southern Indiana’s production of Young Abe Lincoln and Big River at the Lincoln Amphitheatre.

Registration Open for Women Veterans  Conference

Registration is now open for the third annual Honoring Women Veterans Conference, a day of complimentary education, pampering, and camaraderie for women who have served in the United States military.

The conference will take place from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at Eykamp Hall in the University of Evansville’s Ridgway University Center. Attendance is free for all women veterans, who must register for the event by Monday, May 21.

The Evansville Philharmonic Crescendo Club will host a “Symphony Tea” on Sunday, April 22 at 5:00 p.m. at the Evansville Country Club.  Proceeds from the Tea will benefit the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, a non-profit organization.  Reservation deadline has been extended to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 18.

Those who attend will enjoy a presentation by Jean Noyes, an Englishwoman and Tri-State resident well-versed in English tea customs.  Gina McCalister from Mulberry Jean’s in Newburgh will share information on the health benefits of teas.  “This will be a priceless experience to share with family and friends in an intimate setting,” says Christina Harp, co-chair for the event.

Turn your trash into art; win a zoo membership

Have fun turning trash into art by participating in Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden’s Recycled Art Contest.  In celebration of Earth Day, the Zoo is holding an event titled Party for the Planet, Sponsored by Alcoa, on Earth Day this April 22. The Recycled Art Contest will be held in conjunction with this event.  There are categories for all age groups, including adults.

Entries must be created using recyclable materials or “trash.” Examples of acceptable materials to use for your project include cans, plastic, bottles, metal, glass, wood, paper, batteries, or anything that you would discard as garbage.

Sculptures, collages, or pictures are just a few project ideas.  Be creative as you recycle trash into a treasure.

Entries will be judged based on the following five divisions:

USI offers Saturday art workshop for children

Children ages six to 14 can participate in USI’s Saturday Art Workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on two Saturdays, April 14 and 21 in the Technology Center. 

Dr. Joseph Uduehi, associate professor of art education, will coordinate the workshop. Participants will work with USI art students and faculty to create two- and three- dimensional artwork, including collages, paintings, printmaking, sculptures, and more.

USI invites families to Springfest April 13-14

Students and employees and their families, and families from the community, are invited to attend the 2012 SpringFest at the University of Southern Indiana from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13 and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.

“This year’s SpringFest weekend will be huge,” said Tim Buecher, SpringFest advisor. “There will be fun for the entire family; more carnival rides than ever, great festival food to choose from, and free live music from more than 20 bands and vocalists on both days.”

Bands, rides, food, and festivities for all ages will be offered. The main event happens Saturday evening at 7 p.m., when national hit sensations Mike Posner and Karmin take the stage inside the USI PAC Arena. Tickets for the show are $20 for USI students and $30 for the general public and can be purchased now on campus at the USI Bookstore or on their website: http://usibook.usi.edu.

Free outdoor concerts will begin at 1 p.m. each day.  Here's the schedule:
