Evansville Icemen to join the East Coast Hockey League

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- As many expected the Evansville Icemen organization announced Thursday they will be joining the East Coast Hockey league.

The press conference was held at the Ford Center and promised to change "the future direction and development of the pro hockey franchise". 

According to Wikipedia the league: "is a mid-level professional ice hockey league based in Princeton, New Jersey with teams scattered across the United States. It is generally regarded as a tier below the American Hockey League."

Arrested for acting like a boss

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- U.S. Marshals have arrested 25 year-old Sean Anthony Jones on theft warrants from the Evansville Police Department. He is also the suspect in other fraud cases being investigated by the EPD's Financial Crimes Unit.

A clerk at Wesselman's on Fulton Avenue had an encounter with a shoplifter who had a taste for suds and cough syrup Wednesday night.

She called police a little after 9 p.m. when a man wearing a striped shirt, shorts and a baseball cap walked into the store and began removing items from the shelves.  The clerk said the man grabbed two bottles of beer and stuffed them in his pants, then made his way to the medicine aisle where he picked up a bottle of Robitussin and put it down his trousers as well.

Vanderburgh Deputies looking for missing man

VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE)- Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office is looking for a missing man.

Deputies are looking for 34-year-old Rodney Lee Connor.  His mother, Shirley Smith says the last time she heard from Connor was on May 3.  Authorities say that Smith also said no one else in the family has heard from him either.

Deputies say that Connor is a 6 ft. tall white male with short brown hair.

EVSC and New York Life partner to help protect kids

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- A missing child is terrifying for parents.

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation is partnering with New York Life insurance company to provide free identification cards for preschool students.

Officials with the insurance company will be at Culver Family Learning Center this morning from 7:30 until noon.

They will be taking pictures of students for their identification cards.

Boil advisory on Evansville's west side

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- A boil advisory this morning for water customers on Evansville's west side.

There was a water main break on North Helfrich Avenue Wednesday. That break has since been repaired but a precautionary boil advisory remains in effect until further notice.

Customers are advised to boil their water for five minutes before cooking and drinking.

The streets included in the advisory area are:

- N. Helfrich Ave. from Upper Mt. Vernon Ave. north to Clement St.

- Western Ave from N. Helfrich Ave. southwest to Beale St.

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- The Indiana State Police at the Evansville District conducted its annual Memorial Service on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

46 Indiana State Police employees have been killed in the line of duty since the department was created in 1933.
